Power Generation & Utilities

Within our Power Generation & Utilities business, we design and deliver high availability and high-reliability CHP plants, standby power solutions and CCGT plant upgrades, in addition to providing feasibility studies and system design for embedded generation projects. We also provide plant Medium and Low Voltage Electrical Engineering solutions, including the design and commissioning of substations, distribution networks, switchgear and control and protection systems.

We are currently seeking junior and experienced electrical engineers (2+ years’ experience) with a background in MV/LV plant engineering, including substation design, distribution networks, switchgear and control and protection systems, to join our expanding teams in Cork and Dublin. Experience in CCGT and Balance of Plant (BOP) operations would be highly desirable but not essential as we will provide full training.

Primary Responsibilities/ Duties

Depending on role and experience:

  • Design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems in various power plants from standby generation up to large scale CCGT plants.
  • Engineering and maintenance services for auxiliary boilers, standby power and HVAC.
  • Control system integration and monitoring solutions for diesel, gas engines and gas turbines incl. Governors, AVRs/Excitation systems and EGIP/G10 systems.
  • Electrical Protection System design, implementation, testing and support.
  • Electrical/Automation Project Management, shutdown planning and technical support for DCS/SCADA/PLC upgrades.
  • Grid Code Compliance testing and reporting to Eirgrid.
  • Equipment lifecycle management, including safety systems (SIL verification).
  • Fault investigation and root cause analysis.

Qualifications, Skills/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience delivering Electrical Engineering solutions.
  • Design and commissioning of Industrial Plant MV substations and distribution networks.
  • Protection relay design, installation testing and commissioning.
  • Network modelling, protection coordination, short circuit calculations
  • Low Voltage electrical design, LV Distribution Board design.
  • LV Generator Controls upgrade and integration for Demand Side Unit, DS3 schemes.
  • Cable sizing, volt drop calculations, earth fault loop impedance.
  • Earthing System design.
  • Electrical installation inspections and fault root cause analysis.
  • Fiscal Electricity Metering within integration to Energy Management Systems.
